Welcome to our cabin tucked away on 50 acres of mixed woods interspersed with riding/walking leisure trails. One mile from Jackson County State ATV/Snowmobile trails with access via ATV road routes. Minutes from downtown Black River Falls, Lake Wazee Rec Park, Robinson creek & numerous fishing areas! After a day of adventures (or relaxation) you'll want to gather around the fire pit while counting the numerous stars and hearing the coyotes sing in the distance. You might even hear a wolf howl or an Elk bugle?! We have 3 bedrooms that sleep a total of 9 adults. In the master bedroom, there is a queen bed and a private bathroom with a shower. Bedrooms 1 and 2 both have a bunk bed with a double on the bottom and a single on the top. Bedroom 1 has a pull-out trundle bed. Bedroom 2 has a toddler mattress and a pack-and-play available. Bedroom 2 also has a stack washer/dryer as well. The family room has a full wall of windows to enjoy the pine views and let in an ample amount of sunshine throughout the day. There is a large sectional with ottoman, an antenna TV that gets all the local channels and a DVD/Blue Ray player with a DVD collection. There is also a variety of games. The Kitchen has a full sized refrigerator, electric stove/oven, and microwave. We also have the basics for cooking your own meals. (pots, pans, utensils, bowls, plates & silverware.) We just ask that you clean and return anything you use. **Full disclosure, we do have well water and the iron content is more prevalent in this area so sometimes the water isn't super clear. We do have a water filter otherwise bottled water might be a good idea. We have never had an issue or any problems with the well water. Outside we have a fire pit, lawn chairs, picnic table and a gas grill available. Please cover the woodpile and return the chairs when you are done so we can keep everything dry. We do have a large pole shed that we keep locked up as we have items in there we want to keep secure. Feel free to explore the trails whether you are walking, biking, snowshoeing or skiing. We ask our ATV guests refrain from riding on our trails other than at slower speeds. We don't want our trails to get tore up and we want to keep people safe on our property. The boundary lines are marked so please be mindful of those. You may ride your ATV's directly to the Jackson Co. trails which are a mile away down both Dodge road and Oak Ridge road. Our roads are ATV posted so there is no need to trailer your ATV's. Jackson Co. has some fantastic trails and they connect all the way up to Clark Co. so you can ride until your heart is full!! (Or your butt is sore ;-) We are nestled on the south loop of the Jackson Co. ATV trail system. a 1 mile drive down dodge road to the west takes you to one trail entrance, a 1 mile drive down Oak Ridge Road to the north takes you to another trail entrance. You can also go further down Dodge road to Robinson Creek where there are beautiful cliffs and rushing waters. Grab a couple lawn chairs and a cooler and sit in the spring fed creek on a hot day to cool off. You can also kayak/canoe the creek or venture to the Black River for a nice paddle as well. We have numerous trails throughout the 50 acres that you can explore. You will find various species of Pine, Oak, Maple, Poplar and Birch trees. Blue Jays and the Karner Blue Butterlies are common. We often see deer, turkey, porcupine and an occasional fisher wander through. We are about 10 mins from downtown Black River Falls where you can stroll through the picturesque downtown. Sand Creek Brewery has tours and a tasting room or visit a number of quaint bar & grills in the area. Black River Falls is also home to the FIelds of Honor Veterans Memorial near the Dam. You can also see the Native American influence by driving east to the Andrew Blackhawk Pow Wow grounds. You can also visit the Ho-Chunk Casino in the same area as well. In the summer you can find a beach at Lee Lake, Lake Wazee Co. park or enjoy the Hoffman aquatics center in Black River Falls. The park also has a large playground, skate park, and sledding hill. You can visit the Lunda Community Center where they have an indoor aquatics park, fitness center, basketball courts, indoor golf simulator, racquetball, and a rock climbing wall. Every season has its unique charm in this area. We have found it to be a fantastic get-away in any season and we enjoy learning new things about the area each year. The entire home and large lot are yours to enjoy. The garage is used as storage and is unavailable to guests along with two small closets in the downstairs area. The closest home is a couple acres away (a football field!) and the private lake is only shared with three other families groups. The cabin is approximately 2 1/2 hrs. from Minneapolis and Saint Paul, 3 hrs. from Milwaukee, 4 1/2 hrs. from Chicago, 2 hrs. from Madison, 1 hr and 15 minutes from the Dells. One mile away is Lake Arbutus, an 839-acre lake with boat and jet-ski rentals, boat ramps, picnic areas, beaches and playgrounds, and an indoor roller skating ring. However during these times there is hiking, snowshoeing, ice fishing, hunting. Try you luck at the local Ho-Chunk Casino. Also try your ski skills at the Bruce Mound Winter Sports Area. Another popular area is Wazee Lake recreation area, known for its fresh water diving and underwater forest. East Fork Black River Natural Forest area, known for over 100 miles of trails and sightseeing. This is the perfect place to get away year round and to just unplug! Hatfield has 5 different bars/restaurants, a roller rink and several markets on Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. Wildlife abounds with birds, squirrels, deer, turkey, and you might even see the elusive red fox, or a Big Buck just yards from the home. ~Hiking the Ridges over 50 acres is allowed, but please obey all No Trespassing Signs, and do not cross any fences, as we want to respect the neighbors property. ~There is a Beautiful Library with a two story wall filled with shelves of books, photos, and other unique items. Another Highlight is the Sunken Den with a Stone Floor made of Actual Stones dug from the area, combined with a wood Floor. ~Everything but your Food & Drink....is here ~All Linens (Sheets), Towels, Hand Towels, and Wash Cloths are provided at NO extra charge. There are dishes available and a few pots and pans for cooking. All we ask is you treat them as your own, and please leave them clean and ready for the next guests to enjoy. ~No Food or Drink is provided, other than the fresh spring water from the well. A stone camp fire pit can be found with plenty of room to relax around the fire. All the fire wood is provided. ~We are located in a secluded valley, away from the wild and outside routine that most of us live with each day. The driveway to Caballete Retreat is about a quarter mile off the town road so you will never see a passing vehicle. In summer, a beautiful cover of thick green ferns carpet the forest floor. In winter, the carpet changes to snow, mother nature cooperating. We keep the drive plowed all winter. ~We are not located on or near ATV or Snowmobile trails. Riding either vehicle on the property is not allowed. Trailering to the trails is necessary for either machine. Trails for either machine are located within a 10 mile or less drive and takes only 15 to 20 minutes to several locations. Our rural area does not present traffic issues or delays. ~There is room at the retreat for multiple car parking and turning small to midsize trailers around. We have parking space with easy access, nearby on our property, for larger trailers or multiple trailers. Most guests find the parking area to be very adequate for their needs.

We are tucked back into the woods, so you are more likely to see a deer or turkey than another person! About 10 miles away is Lake Wazee where people enjoy fishing, sightseeing, and scuba diving in Wisconsin’s clearest and deepest lake. Ho Chunk Casino and Hoffman Aquatic Center are also just 13 miles away in Black River Falls. There are also plenty of small shops, wineries, and places to eat in Hatfield and the small surrounding towns. Levis Mound, only 15 miles away, offers hiking, snowshoeing, and mountain biking. Bruce Mound, about 5 miles away, offers winter skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. Hatfield has a little something for everyone to enjoy no matter what your interests may be. Frequently asked questions: Is there a place to rent/dock a pontoon boat (or other boat) near the property? We have a large floating dock that travelers are welcome to use! Pontoon and jet ski rentals are available at Lake Arbutus Motor Sports http://www.lakearbutusmotorsports.com/ . Kayak and Canoe rentals are available at Hatfield Sports Shop http://www.hatfieldsportsshop.com/. We also have a paddle boat (sometimes two) on the property that is free to use. Is it safe for kids to swim in front of the property? (Does the water get very deep very fast etc.) Yes, it is safe for children to swim in front of the property, but of course please watch them closely at all times! The sandy beach gradually goes into the water. About 7 feet out it drops to about 5 feet deep. If you have older kids the water at the end of the dock is only about 8 feet deep. No deep diving! I jumped off this dock a million times as a kid! :) What nearby activities are available for kids? There is a lot for kids to do in the area. There is a roller skating rink right in Hatfield (about 3 miles away from the house). Lake Arbutus Resort (2 miles away by road or accessible by boat) has a tiki bar with a sand area the staff often throws change in for kids to find, they also have slushy drinks (a favorite with the kids in our family), a small arcade in a gazebo off the patio, free mini golf, and volleyball courts. There are two county campgrounds/parks on the lake – both with playgrounds. There is a gas station that has hand dipped ice cream, which the kids in our family also always ask to stop at. I highly suggest the caramel collision if you go! Lake Wazee is a beautiful deep and clear lake to go check out about 13 miles away towards Black River Falls (BRF). In BRF there is an aquatic center and movie theatre. In Neillsville (about 10 miles away) there is a bowling alley, Frisbee golf course, skatepark, and a regular golf course. If your kids like hiking Levis mound is also a great place to go. What dates do you have available? Because we just recently listed our home we still have many dates available, but we are booking up quickly! The tops of the mounds offer a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside. Bruce Mound Winter Sports Area is also just a few miles away. It has 10 scenic slopes for skiing and snowboarding and 5 snowtubing runs with a rope tow. The East Fork is the original outlet of Ancient Glacial Lake Wisconsin. If you are into geology Late Cambrian granite and gneiss rocks lie beneath the sandstone and are exposed on the property and in a few places in the rapids on the East Fork. This property lies on the western end of the Central Sand Plains Ecological Landscape. The low population density of this area has numerous species of many mammals, birds and insects. It also lies in Clark County which has more dairy farms than any other county in the state at over 900. There are also many cheese factories to sample. A recent article reported that there are 4 cows for every person in Clark County, and an equal number of deer as humans. Enjoy a quiet, peaceful getaway at a this cottage located on a 50 acre lake front property. Perfect for nature observers and bird watchers, located where the East Fork of the Black River enters Lake Arbutus. The home has a fully furnished kitchen some pots pans ,coffee maker, with mixed place settings for up to 12, dishwasher ,stove ,microwave, and a gas grill. The unit has a stack washer dryer flat screen TVs and internet. A gas grill on a covered porch a fire pit to sit around and roast marshmallows.
